2 Minnesota natives earn contracts after tryout with Vikings
The Vikings have added fullback Zach Ojile and offensive lineman Sam Schlueter to their roster after weekend tryouts.
Ojile, from Blaine, Minnesota, spent four years at Minnesota-Duluth where he played tight end and caught 61 passes for 702 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 24-year-old also rushed for over 400 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Ojile was a three-year starter for Spring Lake Park High School and played linebacker, quarterback, free safety and running back. He was a Minnesota Mr. Football finalist as a quarterback in his senior season.
Sam Schlueter, from Victoria, Minnesota, was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2022 before being cut with an injury settlement after two preseason games. Schlueter signed with the Jets practice squad in December and now the 25-year-old former Golden Gopher has earned a contract after an impressive showing at Vikings rookie minicamp.
Schlueter was a three-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection.
