Upcoming Galaxy Buds 2 Pro update brings more Ambient Sound levels
Samsung wants to enhance the Ambient Sound feature on the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro with more fine-tuning options. The company announced its plans for an upcoming software update today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, and detailed what new features Buds 2 Pro users can expect.
Firstly, Samsung will enhance the Ambient Sound feature with two additional audio level options. Right now, the Ambient Sound feature, which amplifies external audio using the earbuds’ microphones, has three levels: medium, high, and extra high. But once the firmware update announced today goes live, the Ambient Sound feature will gain two more audio levels and let users choose between five audio amplification settings.
Samsung says it assessed the feature’s efficacy through a clinical trial undertaken by the University of Iowa’s Hearing Aid and Aging Research Laboratory. The clinical trial revealed that the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro earbuds can significantly improve speech perception in users with mild-to-moderate hearing loss.
Next update adds even more fine-tuning
Even better, Samsung’s next firmware update for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro also adds more fine-tuning options. Namely, the Ambient Sound setting will have sliders for each earbud, through which users can increase the Ambient Sound volume independently.
Samsung confirmed it wants to roll out this update to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in the coming weeks. There’s no mention of other Galaxy earbud models getting this feature, and the company says that “availability may vary by market,” which could mean that these enhanced Ambient Sound controls may arrive later in some regions than others.
These new features will go live through a Galaxy Wearable app update, and according to the OEM, the new settings will be available through the “Laboratory” menu inside the app. “Samsung will continue to work to help each and every user experience the best possible audio anytime, anywhere with their Galaxy Buds 2 Pro,” said Han-gil Moon, Head of Advanced Audio Lab at Samsung Electronics MX Business, in closing.
