Umpire rescues Little League catcher caught in dust devil at Jacksonville game
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Little League baseball catcher was spun up by a dust devil over home plate Sunday at a game in Jacksonville.
The umpire, Aidan Wiles, immediately ran to 7-year-old Bauer Zoya’s rescue, who was in the short-lived spiraling sand and debris.
“I’ve never seen anything like that my whole entire life, on or off the field,” Wiles said. “At first I was freaked out myself until I saw him trapped in it. So, I decided to run in there and grab him out of it.”
Zoya said it felt like ten minutes to him, but the dust didn’t stop him from playing baseball, according to NBC affiliate WESH.
Water was poured into Zoya’s eyes, and he was back to playing some ball in no time!
