Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert filed for divorce from her husband of nearly two decades, and he did not take it well.
According to an affidavit seen by The Daily Beast, Jayson Boebert got "extremely angry" with the process server delivering divorce papers to him, and tried to reject receipt of the documents.
Boebert was drinking beer and cleaning a gun when he was served on April 25, per the affidavit.
"He started yelling and using profanities, and told me that I was trespassing, and that he was calling the Sheriff's Office," process server Mike Estep wrote in the affidavit. "I told him I was leaving the documents on the chair outside of the door, he closed the door then let the dogs out."
Boebert told the Daily Beast in text messages that he did not know what he was being served for "or if it was some crazy left wing person coming to my house again."
He also said he did not do "anything bad" to the process server, and maintained that his dogs were "no threat."
He added: "The divorce is sad, I did not expect this, I love her with every bit of my heart, she has been my soul mate and she is the mother of my Children."
"We have been through a lot together and I just want her to be happy," Boebert said. "So it's what ever she wants."
Lauren Boebert said in a statement to The Colorado Sun on Tuesday that she was breaking up with Jayson Boebert due to "irreconcilable differences."
The Republican lawmaker's divorce comes after years of her advocating for the traditional family unit.
In 2022, she also gave some faith-based advice to women whose marriages were ending.
"If you start chasing Jesus with everything that you have, I promise you, your husband will chase you chasing Jesus," Boebert said.
"To be able to speak life into a marriage that seems like it's ending is so powerful," she added.
The Boeberts have four children together.
Jayson Boebert's attorney and and representatives of Lauren Boebert did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
