Did you know that you can turn Luminous Stones into gems with Dondons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom? These creatures are very rare, with only five known to exist in the game. They are passive animals despite their brutish looks and can give you some valuable ores. Similar to dogs, you can’t really directly interact with Dondons, but there is a trick to have them make you more wealthy. If you want to fill up your wallet with Rupees, you may consider taking a little detour for this. Accordingly, let’s go over how to get gems from Dondons with Luminous Stones in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How Get Diamonds From Dondons in Tears of the Kingdom

Before you can turn your abundance of Luminous Stones into valuable gems, you need to find Dondons. There are only five of these creatures in Tears of the Kingdom; luckily, they are very easily found. First, you must find the Lakeside Stable in the Faron region. This is very close to the southern coast of Hyrule. Just north of that location across the chasm is a pin where the Dondons graze. The coordinates are 1544, -3354, 0058.

When you find the Dondons, you will find Cima, who explains that Zelda found these creatures. There is also a table nearby that has some gems on it. If you try to take them, Cima will explain that she had some Luminous Stones fall out of her bag. The Dondons ate them, and later she found those gems. It seems like a pretty straightforward hint, right?

All you need to do is pull out at least one Luminous Stone and drop it in front of a Dondon. They will slowly walk over to it and eat it. After that, it is just a waiting game. Leave the area for about ten minutes and come back. They don’t leave their droppings if you are in the area, and waiting at a campfire does not make them drop faster. You should find one of the following ores lying on the ground to pick up:

Zonaite

Large Zonaite

Opal

Sapphire

Ruby

Diamond

While the Dondons can eat multiple Luminous Stones, we recommend only giving them one at a time. We tested if more Stones meant a better chance for Diamonds, and it seemed completely random to us. We gave one Luminous Stone to a Dondon that dropped a Diamond, and then two others we gave four each and got a Ruby and Zonaite. Regardless, this is an effortless way to turn Luminous Stones into Diamonds, especially if you are broke in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
