Geraldo Rivera foiled trying to buy dinner for Fleet Week Marines
Veteran journalist Geraldo Rivera tried to buy a steak dinner for a group of Marines in town for Fleet Week in Manhattan — but two other good Samaritans beat him to it.
The Fox News journo, 79, shared the anecdote on Twitter on Friday morning.
“Fleet Week in NY. Ran into group of US Marines having dinner at famed Smith & Wollensky steak house. I told waiter I’d like to pick up their check. Waiter told me there were 2 other offers ahead of me,” Rivera said.
“Bless our service folk & Remember our fallen warriors,” he added.

Fleet Week, which kicks off ahead of Memorial Day weekend each year, brought thousands of servicemen and women from the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard to New York’s five boroughs.
As the 35th Annual Fleet Week got under way Wednesday, sailors and Marines gathered on Times Square’s famous Red Stairs before taking to Broadway.
The event has been held in New York City since 1984 but was held virtually in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID 19.
