According to a study by Pantry & Larder, Arizona technically boasts the most burger restaurants per person in the United States, but it isn't necessarily known for slinging the best patties in America. If anything, fast food giants like McDonald's and Burger King have come to represent the national burger ideal. And sure, pickles are great, but maybe it's time to champion an even brinier burger topping: olives.
While no one's quite sure who originated the concept of a ground beef patty nestled between toasted buns, one theory maintains that it all started in 1885 at a county fair in Erie, New York — but that's a topic for another time.
