Reno police investigating Sparks officer-involved shooting
SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - 4:00 a.m. Update: A man is dead after a shooting involving Sparks police officers.
According to the Sparks Police Department, when officers responded to the Iron Horse Shopping Center they made contact with a man who they believe was armed. Investigators say he ran from police, and officers then shot him. Specifics on what led to the shooting have not yet been made clear. The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The Reno Police Department is taking over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
Original Story: A heavy police presence was reported in the Iron Horse Shopping Center at Prater Way and McCarran Boulevard Tuesday night. Officers responded around 9:30 p.m.
No information has been released about the incident.
Reno Police and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office were also part of the response.
People are asked to avoid the area while the scene is active.
