Today’s Wordle Review

CRANE felt like a winner this round. I’ve played starting words that led to me faring far worse in the past, with less information. For some reason, I became stuck on putting an A in the opening spot. ALGAE was the first word that came to mind, and I badly wanted it to be the winner. What other words have an A and end with an E?

I was tempted to guess AGLOE, which sounded familiar. I quickly searched for it on Google before playing. It’s a fictional town in upstate New York that was hanging out in the corners of my memory from when I read “Paper Towns” by John Green as a teenager. The town has a really interesting story: Two mapmakers created its name by rearranging their initials, but it did not correspond to a real place. Mapmakers in the 1930s would add fictional points on their maps to easily spot copyright violations. AGLOE stuck around on maps into the 20th century and even appeared on Google in 2013. Mr. Green’s novel was responsible for revitalizing interest in AGLOE.

Though AGLOE is not a word and would not be the solution in Wordle, I give my thanks to the game for prompting me to go on miniature research adventures. It’s great trivia and crossword-solving fodder.

AGILE quickly came to me. This was a fast solve for me: five stars. How did you do today?

Today’s word is AGILE, an adjective. According to Webster’s New World College Dictionary, it means quick in movement or mental ability.
