The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has been in the spotlight for many months now, with consistent rumors talking about its alleged specifications and more. However, the most important aspect was not discussed until now, and that is the official launch date. Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon Summit for this year, so let us discuss what could be unveiled in a few months.

Qualcomm will host its upcoming Snapdragon Summit starting in late October, not November

Previously, the Snapdragon Summit that unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was held from November 15-17 in Hawaii. For this year, the location has not changed, but the dates have, and as luck would have it, we will likely see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 get announced sooner as the event is said to be held from October 24-26. On Twitter, we saw Alvin sharing these details first, but we did not get the full picture of what the San Diego firm intends to announce a few months from now.

Naturally, the majority of eyes will be on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it will be Qualcomm’s third successive smartphone SoC to be mass produced on TSMC’s cutting-edge node. Unfortunately, Qualcomm will not take advantage of the 3nm process as those wafers are reserved for Apple. Instead, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is said to be fabricated on the N4P node, improving performance without sacrificing power efficiency. This year, we might also get a surprise entrant, such as the preview of Qualcomm’s Oryon custom cores.

Unfortunately, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will not be the first SoC to feature these Oryon cores; that is rumored to be designed for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is said to be unveiled sometime in 2024. Qualcomm is possibly previewing the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 too, a silicon designed for notebooks, featuring more cores than the company’s smartphone chipsets. Other announcements can include how its latest hardware will leverage ‘AI,’ a buzzword that has popularized exponentially this year.

Before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 announcement kicks off, we can quickly recap its rumored specifications. Apparently, Qualcomm is rumored to be testing two versions, with one of them sporting two Cortex-X4 cores instead of one. However, for the sake of power efficiency, the commercial version will likely end up using a single Cortex-X4 core, with the final configuration said to be ‘1 + 5 + 2.’ We should also expect to see ‘titanium’ cores for the first time, along with the introduction of a new Adreno 750 GPU. As always, our readers should treat this information with a pinch of salt and wait for the actual announcement.
