In honor of National Doughnut Day, we asked 5 On Your Side viewers their favorite doughnut shops.

ST. LOUIS — In honor of National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 2, we wanted to create a round-up of the best places to get doughnuts in the St. Louis region.

So, we took to Facebook to ask 5 On Your Side viewers their thoughts on the best doughnuts in the area.

And boy did they deliver. With more than 300 comments, there was no clear winner, but there were quite a few doughnuts shops that had many votes in their favor.

National Doughnut Day rolls around the first Friday every June. The holiday began in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the women in the Salvation Army who served doughnuts to soldiers in World War I, according to the Salvation Army's website.

In no particular order, here are 5 On Your Side viewers' favorite doughnut shops in the St. Louis area.

Berkemann's Baker's Dozen

Berkemann's Baker's Dozen in New Baden, Illinois, has been serving customers for more than 20 years. 5 On Your Side viewers had nothing but good things to say about Berkemann's and their doughnuts. The shop also offers cakes, cookies, breads, pies and pastries, according to its Facebook page.

Location: 115 West Hanover St., New Baden, Illinois.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Donut Delight

Donut Delight in Florissant is a frequent stop for 5 On Your Side viewers. Customers on the doughnut shop's Facebook page praised it for its selection of doughnuts and the shop's excellent customer service. One 5 On Your Side viewer said they love the cherry turnovers from Donut Delight.

Location: 3605 Dunn Rd., Florissant, Missouri.

Hours: Tuesday-Sunday: 4 a.m. to noon.

Donut Drive-In

Donut Drive-In has been a staple in south St. Louis for 70 years this year. The doughnut shop offers a wide variety of doughnuts from long johns and yeast rings to fritters and twists that customers have been loving for decades. 5 On Your Side viewers said they love Donut Drive-In's apple fritters.

Location: 6525 Chippewa St., St. Louis, Missouri.

Hours:

Tuesday-Thursday: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Friday & Saturday: 5 a.m. to midnight.

Sunday: 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donut-King

Donut-King in St. Charles serves some delicious doughnuts, all from a nut-free facility. The doughnut shop is also known for its custom doughnut orders in unique shapes and themes. One 5 On Your Side viewer said Donut-King has the best doughnuts around, and are great for their child who has allergies.

Location: 658 1st Capitol Dr., St. Charles, Missouri.

Hours: Wednesday-Sunday: 5 a.m. to noon. (The business' website said it will be closed from June 3 to June 15.)

Donut Palace

This Ellisville doughnut shop is a crowd favorite among 5 On Your Side viewers. Family-owned and operated, Donut Palace serves handcrafted, fresh doughnuts. The doughnut shop has several positive reviews on its Facebook page, referring to its selection of doughnuts and its friendly staff.

Location: 37 Clarkson Rd., Ellisville, Missouri.

Hours: Wednesday-Sunday: 6 a.m. to noon.

The Donut Stop

Located in Lemay, The Donut Stop is another doughnut shop worth checking out. 5 On Your Side viewers had an overwhelming amount of support for the shop in our Facebook poll. Many said The Donut Stop has great long johns and glazed doughnuts, as well as a great staff of workers.

Location: 1101 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, Missouri.

Hours: Wednesday-Sunday: 4:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Drew's Donut Stop

Drew's Donut Stop in Arnold was one of the best-voted places for doughnuts in our Facebook post. Viewers said Drew's has delicious apple fritters and a very friendly staff. In honor of National Doughnut Day, Drew's Donut Stop will be selling glazed doughnuts with strawberry whipped cream, peach fritters and a baked strawberry cream cheese croissant, according to the shop's Facebook page.

Location: 1600 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold, Missouri.

Hours: Tuesday-Sunday: 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Kruta's Bakery

Across the river in the Metro East, Kruta's Bakery has a wide variety of breads, cakes and pastries alongside the doughnuts they sell. The fourth-generation, family-owned bakery was a favorite mentioned by viewers. The shop sells long johns, twists and jelly-filled doughnuts among others.

Location: 300 St. Louis Rd., Collinsville, Illinois.

Hours:

Tuesday-Friday: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mister Donut

Another Illinois favorite from 5 On Your Side viewers is Mister Donut. "Best ever!" one viewer said in our poll for doughnut shops. Mister Donuts offers a selection of cake, jelly-filled and traditional glaze doughnuts, according to their menu.

Location: 2720 Grovelin Ave., Godfrey, Illinois.

Hours: Monday-Sunday: 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Old Town Donuts

Old Town Donuts in Florissant is a long-time favorite for doughnuts in the St. Louis area. Old Town has a second location in Cottleville, which opened in 2014. Several 5 On Your Side viewers claimed Old Town as their favorite doughnut shop to visit. Old Town has a large menu with glaze rounds, twists, long johns and a variety of cake doughnuts as well.

Florissant:

508 New Florissant Rd., Florissant, Missouri.

Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cottleville:

3941 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, Cottleville, MO.

Hours: 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Fenton Olde Towne Donuts

Located in Fenton, Olde Towne Donuts received lots of love from 5 On Your Side viewers. The doughnut shop has been open since 2004 in Olde Town Fenton, according to Olde Town Donuts' Facebook page.

Location: 67 Fenton Plaza, Fenton, Missouri.

Hours:

Monday-Friday: 4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 8 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday & Sunday: 4 a.m. to midnight.

The Sweet Spot Cafe

The Sweet Spot Cafe in St. Ann was highly recommended by 5 On Your Side viewers. "Amazing everything, from homemade donuts and pastries, to gyros and burgers. So delicious and all the staff are friendly and helpful!" one viewer said in our Facebook poll. The Sweet Spot Cafe was also voted as the 45th best doughnut shop in the U.S. by Yelp.

Location: 3586 Adie Rd., St. Ann, Missouri.

Hours:

Monday: 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tuesday-Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sunday: 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tony's Donuts & Café

Tony's Donuts opened in Maryland Heights in 1995 as a family-owned business. They refer to themselves as a café, given their menu options, which range from doughnuts to breakfast sandwiches and more. One viewer said Tony's has "Great donuts and pastries, breakfast sandwiches and great people." Tony's has a second location in Hazelwood.

Wood Bakery

Back over in the Metro East is Wood Bakery, in O'Fallon, Illinois. Wood Bakery not only sells doughnuts, but cakes, pies, cookies, pastries and other specialty items. Open since 1967, the bakery is a staple of O'Fallon. Several 5 On Your Side viewers said Wood Bakery is their favorite place to stop for a doughnut.

Location: 115 West 1st St., O'Fallon, Illinois.

Hours:

Monday-Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday: 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday: 6 a.m. to noon.
