It’s been a few months since the original Galaxy Fold received a firmware update outside of Korea, but Samsung is now changing that. The May 2023 security update is rolling out in France, with more countries likely to follow suit.

Samsung started distrivuting the May 2023 update for the Galaxy Fold in Korea earlier in May, but now, the security patch is making its way toward the international SM-F900F variant. France appears to be the first country to get the update, but we’re guessing that the firmware will spread across Europe and beyond in the coming days and weeks.

Samsung fans that are still rocking the original Galaxy Fold can look for firmware version F900FXXU6HWE2. But even though the firmware version hints at new features, the changelog only mentions improved security.

The Galaxy Fold no longer receives major Android OS upgrades and will run Android 12 for the remainder of its lifetime. But Samsung will continue to release security patches for a while longer and will presumably stop in 2024 when the phone reaches five years of age. Indeed, it’s been that long since the original Galaxy Fold went live, and much has changed in the meantime.

If you are a Galaxy Fold user, you probably already know that you can check for new firmware updates by opening the Settings app, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” And if you prefer manual updates over a PC, you can download the official firmware files from our website.
