A YouTuber’s house was allegedly raided by private detectives hired by the makers of Magic: The Gathering after he streamed an unreleased version of the famously geeky card game, he said.
Dan “Oldschoolmtg” Cannon said he was shooting videos on Saturday, when agents from the Pinkerton National Detective Agency arrived at his home — demanding that he hand over the game and causing his wife to burst into tears, according to Kotaku.com.
The private agents allegedly threatened to report Cannon to the county sheriff if he didn’t fork over the cards — citing possible jail time and $200,000 a fine, Cannon told the outlet.
Cannon said he had accidentally purchased a yet-to-be-released version of the game, March of the Machine: The Aftermath, instead of one titled March of the Machine, which was released last Friday.
“What I believe happened is that the names are too similar… and somebody screwed up and sent the wrong cases,” Cannon said.
He added that his trading card dealer probably mixed up the titles because he’s “more of a Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! guy.”

A spokesperson for Wizards of the Coast, the firm that makes the game, confirmed to the outlet the detectives had been sent as “part of their investigation.”
Cannon ultimately agreed to take down footage of the unreleased game and the card company “apologized for going through the drastic means of sending Pinkertons to my front door,” Cannon said.
