An Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim player booted up the PlayStation 3 version of the game after seven years and found it to be an absolute disaster. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim originally released for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in 2011. While Skyrim earned glowing praise across all of its available versions, there's no denying that the PS3 version of Bethesda's open world epic is easily the worst of the three.

Bethesda games tend to have some serious glitches regardless of platform, but the PS3 version of Skyrim was notoriously worse than its PC and Xbox 360 counterparts. There were some PS3-specific issues Skyrim players on Sony's seventh generation platform had to wrestle with, with severe lag being one of the most common problems players ran into back in the day. While there were some updates released to tackle the PS3 version's shortcomings, it seems that it still has some big issues to iron out.

This was illustrated by Reddit user Substantial_Car_4092, who booted up the PS3 version of Skyrim after putting it down seven years ago. They started a new save, only to discover that virtually none of the buildings or textures loaded correctly, creating a bizarre, flat landscape, with some characters visible but little else. According to their comments on the post, they were completely unable to move their Dragonborn, which could have something to do with the Skyrim NPC that seems to have loaded inside their character.

There have been many strange Skyrim bugs over the years, but this might take the cake as one of the most head-scratching. While it's unfortunate to see a Skyrim world like this, the bright side is that at least this problem reared its ugly head at the beginning of the game and not later on. It would be far more devastating if, say, the Reddit user was nearly done collecting all of Skyrim's trophies on their save file and then this happened, which would equate to a ton of wasted playtime.

Those who play Skyrim on newer devices likely don't have to worry about running into anything quite at this level, though even the latest versions of Skyrim have their quirks to be aware of. Bethesda faced some criticism when it failed to fix some lingering issues with the Skyrim - Anniversary Edition releases, but they should still be the ideal way to play the open world RPG today.
