Colts' Isaiah Rodgers cops to 'error in judgement' in NFL betting probe
The Indianapolis Colts player under investigation by the NFL for “pervasive” sports gambling is owning up to his mistakes.
Isaiah Rodgers, a cornerback and kick returner, responded to reports Monday that the league was looking into his gambling practices – including betting on his own team.

“I want to take full responsibility for my actions,” Rodgers wrote in a social media post. “I know I have made mistakes and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates. I’ve let people down that I care about.
“I made an error in judgement and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified throughout the process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”
The website Sports Handle reported Monday that a Colts player made “hundreds” of bets and at least some were on Indianapolis.
ESPN later reported that Rodgers was the player in question.
The Colts said in a statement they were aware of the situation and did not have a comment at this time.
The Sports Handle report indicated that a proxy may have been making the bets “through an account opened by an acquaintance” of Rodgers.
Rodgers, 25, is entering his fourth season in the league after being a sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2020.
NFL players are not prohibited from placing bets on the league, they just cannot make them on team or league grounds or events as well as other specified situations. That includes: “Any League or club charter or other transport; while traveling on club or League business; or while making an endorsement or promotional appearance,” the NFL’s rules state.
Former Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley missed all of the 2022 season due to an indefinite suspension levied by the league for betting on NFL games.
Ridley will play for the Jaguars in 2023.
