OU Softball: Oklahoma's WCWS Championship Series Matchup Set
The top-ranked Sooners will face off against an East Coast power for the 2023 National Championship.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma will square off with a familiar foe for the national title.
The top-ranked Sooners will take on the 3-seeded Florida State Seminoles in a rematch of the 2021 Championship Series after FSU beat the 4-seeded Tennessee Volunteers 5-1 on Monday to advance to the finals.
Two years ago, OU and the Seminoles took identical paths at the Women’s College World Series, losing on Day 1 and battling all the way back to play for it all.
Both teams have again mirrored each other in 2023, though taking a more direct path.
Oklahoma and Florida State are both 3-0 at the WCWS, and will be well-rested for the best-of-three Championship Series.
It’s not the first time the teams have met this year, either.
OU edged FSU 5-4 on March 14 in Norman.
Florida State designated player Katie Dack launched a three-run bomb in the top of the fourth inning to put the Seminoles up 4-3 at Marita Hynes Field, but the lead didn’t last long.
Haley Lee and Tiare Jennings both added RBIs in the bottom of the fourth to put Oklahoma ahead 5-4, and Jordy Bahl entered the game in the fifth inning to close out the win.
Riding a 51-game winning streak, the Sooners will need two more wins against the Seminoles to capture the program’s seventh national title and become the first program in over three decades to go back-to-back-to-back.
Game 1 of the Championship Series will start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and the highly-anticipated battle will be broadcast on ESPN.
