Manchester City star explains attachment to both Italy and Milan
Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has discussed the attachment that he has to Italy and the city of Milan ahead of the Champions League final.
Speaking during an interview with Sky Sport (via Milan News), the German midfielder explained that he has an attachment to the city of Milan due to his immediate family.
“I am very attached to Italy and Milan, my son’s doctor is Italian and an Inter supporter, I have already spoken to him. My son was born there, my wife lived there for a few years. I also like to go there on holiday, although this year it will depend on how the final goes,” Gundogan said.
Given Gundogan is set to be available on a free transfer at the end of this season, AC Milan are one of the many teams that have been linked with a move for him.
He has been a star performer for City at times and scored the two goals that helped them win the FA Cup last weekend. Despite his undoubted quality, the club and player are yet to reach an agreement on his future.
City will be taking on Inter in the Champions League in Istanbul on Saturday evening. Talking about the game, he pointed out that he has lost two previous Champions League finals.
“I’ve lost the two Champions League finals I’ve played, so I guess everyone can understand how great my desire is to win this trophy. I’m 32 years old and I don’t think I’ll have such an opportunity again. We have confidence, but we also know that beating Inter will be very difficult,” he said.
