The Braves-Mets rivalry is picking up steam after a game Tuesday night, in which Pete Alonso’s words came back to haunt him.

Alonso and teammate Francisco Lindor both launched two-run homers in the third inning to give the Mets an early 4-1 lead as they kicked off a pivotal divisional series in Atlanta, in which they hoped to gain ground in an NL East race that hasn’t been close so far.

After his round-tripper, Alonso took a moment in the dugout to chirp at Braves’ starter Bryce Elder, who leads the National League in ERA.

“Throw it again, throw it again, please. Throw it again,” Alonso taunted.

Following Alonso’s blast, the Mets’ offense sputtered.

Elder settled down and combined with the bullpen to hold the team scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Braves’ high-powered offense, which ranks third in the National League in runs scored, then erupted for five runs to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, which they would not relinquish.

The Braves’ Twitter account quickly pounced on the Mets and Alonso following the team’s win.

“Throw it again,” the post read alongside a graphic celebrating the Braves’ 6-4 win.

The social media administrator wasn’t the first member of the Braves to use the phrase against the Mets on Tuesday.

In the midst of Atlanta’s rally during the sixth inning, Braves’ reliever Tyler Matzek told Mets’ righty Drew Smith to continue throwing his slider, which Marcell Ozuna had just ambushed for an RBI double to tie the game.

The Mets’ loss on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive defeat, and it pushed the squad under .500 at 30-31.

They are now six games back in the divisional race behind the Braves, and two and a half games behind the surging Miami Marlins, who have won eight of their last 10.
