Garage 56 Camaro Moved Up 21 Places On Le Mans Centenary Grid
Just before 2 A.M. in France, the FIA World Endurance Championship Committee has made a change to the Garage 56 NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s terms of participation.
At the request of the LMGTE Am competitors, the #24 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro will be positioned at the back of the LMP2 grid for the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – and ahead of the 21 GTE cars.
The decision was made after three days of testing and practice gave clear evidence that the Le Mans-prepped, seventh-generation NASCAR Cup Series vehicle was capable of a pace several seconds quicker than what the GTE cars were capable of.
In addition, the car will not be eligible for the Pass Around procedure during a Safety Car intervention, and during the Drop Back procedure, the #24 Hendrick Camaro will be instructed to do it after the LMP2 category’s Drop Back.
