Samsung is making preparations to unveil its next-gen foldable phones soon. The company has hinted at a late-July launch at Unpacked, and now, regulatory agencies have more or less confirmed that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be released in India soon.

The next-gen Samsung flip phones were spotted at the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification website carrying model numbers SM-F731B (Galaxy Z Flip 5) and SM-F946B/DS (Galaxy Z Fold 5). Although the website doesn’t reveal any specifications, the model numbers match expectations and, once again, confirm that the foldable phones will be coming to India (via MySmartPrice). Not that there was any doubt.

What can you expect from the next-gen Samsung foldable phones?

In terms of hardware specifications, the model numbers spotted online at BIS confirm two minor details. Namely, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have full-fledged dual-SIM support, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will not — although similar to the Z Flip 4, we suspect that the upcoming flip phone will support dual-SIM if one is registered as an virtual eSIM.

Other than this SIM configuration detail, BIS doesn’t reveal much else. But based on prior rumors and leaks, the two foldable phones should be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. That’s true for India and every other market, as there won’t be a divide between Qualcomm and Exynos SoCs. Every Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 will be powered by Qualcomm.

Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 might not look too different from the Z Fold 4 but should have a new hinge that allows it to be folded shut perfectly flat. It also has a less visible crease. As for the Z Flip 5, Samsung may have focused more of its energy on this model. Leaks indicate that the flip phone has a new, larger cover screen that can host optimized Google apps, which might have a huge (positive) impact on the user experience.

Samsung could unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 at the end of July. The company more or less confirmed that the next Unpacked event will be hosted at COEX in Seoul, South Korea.
