UConn student identified as crash, homicide victim in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Police in Hartford said they are actively working on a homicide investigation Wednesday morning.

Police identified the the victim as 18-year-old Zaid Deje Langs-Myers of Windsor, a University of Connecticut student.

Hartford police Lt. Aaron Boisvert spoke to the media about it around 6:30 a.m.

Officers said a motor vehicle crash at High Street and Walnut Street around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday was connected to the incident.

When they arrived to the scene, Hartford firefighters and officers found a male suffering from gunshot wounds outside the vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

They determined that the incident started in the area of 37 Brook St.

“The Hartford police major crimes and crime scene divisions responded and assumed the investigation,” police said.

There was a passenger in the vehicle who was not hurt.

Police also mentioned that a lot of marijuana was found at the crash scene, so much so that it may be connected to the incident.

There’s no word on a suspect.

“We do have some strong leads at this point,” Boisvert said.

Police said they will continue to provide updates as they become available.

The homicide marked the city’s 12th of the year.
