Practice Notes Day 2 Of Bucs Minicamp
Day 2 of Bucs minicamp is in the books.
Joe had a partially-obstructed view (anything in the end zone or goal line on the right side was not in view). As for the practice, no disgruntled linebacker Devin White in sight. Mike Evans was on the sidelines in sweatpants. Kyle Trask got a bunch of snaps but overall, the offense was sloppy, especially when the team tried to throw farther than 15 yards downfield.
Or, you could say the defense was on point. They were flying around, no question.
* Joe saw Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett running 100-yard sprints as he recuperates from his Achilles injury suffered last season. It appeared to Joe that he had a slight limp. Maybe it was Joe’s imagination?
* Pick! Kyle Trask was flushed to the right and he tried to sail the ball over defenders’ heads to undrafted rookie receiver Rakim Jarrett. But that was Carlton Davis back there. He got in front of Jarrett, skied and caught the ball.
* It seems early in practice, Trask often has a pick.
* Trask is flushed left this time. He decides to tuck-and-run. Granted, it is underwear football, but the defense was getting after quarterbacks today. A welcome sign.
* Sneak Vaughn takes a handoff and runs off right tackle for a big gain. Trask is stoked as he claps his hands loudly.
* This time Vaughn runs left and past the defense for six.
* Baker Mayfield feels the heat of the pass rush and he takes off to the right.
* Mayfield throws to the right side near the sideline and nobody is home as the ball falls to the grass.
* Mayfield connects with undrafted rookie receiver Kade Warner near the right hashmarks as Warner was cutting across the field from the left side. Looked like he got face-masked as he made the catch.
* Mayfield hits Godwin on a short pass to the right.
* Warner brings in a Mayfield pass along the right sideline. This may have been Warner’s best practice. He’s flashing more today than usual.
Goal line 7-on-7
* Trask aims for the end line of the end zone and Ryan Miller makes a pretty catch for six.
* Trask throws to the far left corner of the end zone and the ball falls to the turf, nobody home. Appeared Tanner Taula was the intended receiver.
* Next play is the same thing only this time Trask connects with rookie tight end Payne Durham.
* Ryan Jensen is working on the side (so is Aaron Stinnie). A golf cart by a Bucs staffer hauling tackling dummies is coming down the sideline and Jensen jogs into its path and then lays down on the ground as if blocking the cart. What was Jensen protesting, that the guy was taking away dummies?
* David Moore pulls in a pass from Mayfield in the right far corner for a touchdown. Joe knows this because Joe heard the hooting and hollering from the offense and saw Moore run back with the ball in his hands from the right corner of the end zone. Offense wouldn’t react like that if it was an incompletion.
* Miller catches a Trask pass near the left pylon for a touchdown.
11-on-11
* Trask lofts a pass to Rachaad White in the right flat. The pass was a bit high and wide but White skied to make a one-handed grab and then turned upfield.
* Trask hits Miller in traffic along the right sideline.
* Trask threads the needle to hook up with Warner down the right seam. Joe has a hunch this Warner is this season’s Adam Humphries.
* The pride of Indiana State (Larry Bird U) Dominique Dafney pulls in a Trask pass along the left sideline.
* Tip! Mayfield appeared to be throwing to Durham on a short pass to the right but the ball was tipped at the line.
* Patrick Laird grabs a Mayfield pass on the left side.
* Mayfield throws to Trey Palmer along the left sideline and the ball is way over Palmer’s head.
* Tip drill! Mayfield has a pass tipped again. This time, Ryan Neal gets the pick.
* Jarrett goes down the right seam and pulls in a Mayfield pass and as he does get gets inadvertently clubbed in the head as he went down for the ball between two defenders.
* Trask looks left then throws right and connects with Cade Otton near the right sideline.
* It appears Trask was trying for Jarrett and the ball drops harmlessly on the sod.
* Trask was throwing deep down the middle for Taye Barber and Zyon McCollum jumps the route, tips the pass and pulls in the ball for a pick.
* Palmer has a collision with a pair of defenders and as a result a Mayfield pass was incomplete.
* Mayfield is flushed and runs right and throws the ball away. Still, Duron Lowe made a diving attempt at the pass near the right sideline.
* Taula pulls in a Mayfield pass to the right.
* Pass rush gets to Mayfield from his left and Mayfield just dirts the ball.
