Tornado watch issued for dozens of North, Central Texas counties
A tornado watch was issued for dozens of North and Central Texas counties Thursday afternoon.
The watch covers 33 counties including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Rockwall. It will expire at 10 p.m. A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form, while a warning means a tornado is currently happening.
From 4 to 11 p.m., there is also a slight risk for isolated to scattered storms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with an increased risk for severe storms in cities to the north, such as Paris and Gainesville, the National Weather Service said. The greatest threats will be large hail, damaging winds up to 70 mph and the possibility of tornadoes.
The chance for storms follows days of severe weather in North Texas, including severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings Wednesday.

The weather service also has issued a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Friday for more than a dozen counties including Dallas, Tarrant, Kaufman and Ellis. High temperatures mixed with high humidity means heat index values are projected to reach anywhere from 106 to 112 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits for the first time this year by the end of the week.
“Remember to stay hydrated, limit time outside during peak heating, and if you must be outdoors, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing,” the weather service said.
Dry skies are ahead, the weather service said, but before then storms are possible Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. Some of those storms could be severe, bringing with them large hail and damaging winds, according to the weather service.
