DETROIT – Northbound I-75 at the Davison Freeway is closed while police investigate a crash caused by a tire that came loose, crossed a median wall, and struck a pickup truck.
A 63-year-old man was pulled from the pickup truck and transported to a hospital to be treated for critical injuries, according to police. The driver of the vehicle that lost a tire is cooperating with the investigation.
Police said their investigation indicates that a 63-year-old man was driving a pickup truck in the northbound lanes of I-75 when a vehicle in the southbound lanes lost a tire. The tire went over the median wall and struck the pickup truck’s windshield.
When troopers arrived, they found the pickup truck against the median wall and the driver unconscious. The troopers broke the window but were not able to reach the driver because the roof of the truck was caved in.
Troopers used a chain to pull the vehicle away from the median wall, then they were able to remove him from the driver’s seat. Troopers worked to treat the driver and helped the fire department transport him to a hospital. The driver is listed as in critical condition.
