How to Get Amber
Amber is a resource that Tears of the Kingdom players will encounter early on. Amber is often found when destroying ore veins. While ore veins can be found along rock walls, they are more commonly found within caves all across Hyrule. In order to get the Amber from the ore vein, players will need to use a hammer weapon or make one to destroy the ore vein.
Beyond that, Amber can occasionally be found in treasure chests as well. But this is not a reliable method for getting Amber, so players should focus on searching caves for ore veins to destroy. In fact, players can go to a cave that they know Amber drops from ore veins in and farm it. This is accomplished by destroying the ore veins, fast traveling away, and then coming back to repeat the process.
How to Use Amber
Primarily, Amber continues to be a source of rupees by selling them to vendors. There is even a vendor in Goron City who will purchase them for a significantly higher rate than other vendors (20 rupees as opposed to the usual 10 rupees). Of course, there are other uses for Amber as well.
Amber provides a small boost of four attack power to a weapon if it is used for fusion. As a result, Amber can be a useful material early on when players may not necessarily have obtained more powerful material for fusing to weapons. Whether it is an actual weapon or just a stick, Amber can be fused to any weapon. Amber can also be fused to shields as well. Amber can also be attached to an arrow as well. But since it doesn't provide much of a boost to damage, players are better off saving Amber for other uses.
Beyond weapon fusion, Amber is also used for upgrading the defense stat on armor. When visiting one of the Great Fairies, one of the potential resources needed for upgrading armor can be Amber.
