Patriots cornerback Jack Jones could be facing a lengthy prison sentence if he is convicted on gun charges stemming from an arrest at Logan International Airport in Boston last week.

Jones, 25, faces a litany of charges after he was arrested on Friday and charged with having two handguns in his carry-on luggage.

James Borghesani, a spokesman for the office of Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden, explained the severity of Jones’ situation to the Boston Globe.

“If he were convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge he’d face more than 30 years in prison,” the spokesperson said.

Nevertheless, the outlet notes that consecutive sentencing from judges is rare, and it is more common for sentences to be served concurrently.

According to the Globe, Jones faces “two counts each of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.”

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement that the firearms were detected during a “routine X-ray screening” of Jones’ carry-on luggage, as he was traveling from Boston to Los Angeles.

Jones, who was released on $50,000 bond, is expected to be arraigned later this week.

“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today,” the Patriots said in a statement on Friday. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”

Jones was selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 13 games last year and recorded two interceptions, including one that he ran back for a touchdown.
