In 1711, Queen Anne founded Royal Ascot, the annual horse-racing event, and since, it has remained a staple on the British royal family's annual calendar. The Royal Ascot has a strict dress code: men must wear "a full morning suit with waistcoat and either a black or grey top hat at all times," and women need to wear hats, and dresses that cover their shoulders. The royals even have to wear name tags.
The event was historically a favorite of Queen Elizabeth's, and this is the first year the royals will attend without their late matriarch.
