Two weeks ago, Samsung started rolling out the June 2023 security update to the Galaxy S20 series in Asia and Europe. Earlier this week, the availability of the update was expanded to the unlocked Galaxy S20 units in the US. Today, Samsung released a new update to the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 series phones in the US.

Galaxy S20 June 2023 security update: What’s new?

The latest software update for the carrier-locked units of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with firmware version G981USQS5HWF2. The update is currently available on Metro PCS, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks in the US. We expect other carriers to release the new Galaxy S20 update on their networks within the next few days. The update brings the June 2023 security patch that fixes over 50 security flaws found in Galaxy phones and tablets. It doesn’t include any new features or performance enhancements.

If you have a Galaxy S20 series device that is carrier-locked in the US, you can now check for the new update. You can do that by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung released the Galaxy S20 series with Android 10 onboard in early 2020. The phones received the Android 11 update in late 2020, the Android 12 update in late 2021, and the Android 13 update in late 2022. The Galaxy S20 series is expected to get the Android 14 update later this year.
