Ohio State Moves Up to No. 2 in 2024 Class Rankings, Leaping Michigan With Commitment of Bryce West
Ohio State football's recruiting is pretty lit right now, as the kids would say.
With the commitment of four-star cornerback Bryce West Saturday afternoon, Ohio State not only beat out Michigan for Ohio’s top-ranked prospect in the 2024 class, but the Buckeyes also jumped their rival in the recruiting rankings as well. With West in the fold, OSU now has the second-best recruiting class in 2024 with 262.14 points, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
The Buckeyes leapfrogged Michigan, who currently has 261.15 points with 22 commits compared to just 15 for Ohio State. Georgia, who has 20 commitments, is well ahead atop the rankings with 296.06 points.
In terms of average recruit rating, Ohio State's 93.54 average is also the second-best in the country behind Alabama, who has a 94.36 average but only eight commitments. Michigan’s 90.71 average is the ninth-best in the class.
If the Buckeyes want to stay ahead of Michigan in the 2024 class rankings, Ohio State will have to continue to carry the momentum with prospects such as four-star cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. – the No. 2-ranked player in Ohio's 2024 recruiting class and another top target for both the Buckeyes and the Wolverines – along with other top talent from across the country. Both West and Scott took visits to Ann Arbor last weekend, as Jim Harbaugh has tried his best to come into Ohio and take some of the top talent from across the state, but West officially ended the Wolverines’ hopes of stealing Scott on Saturday.
Ohio State still has plenty of work to do in the 2024 class, but with 15 commitments already in the fold and plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail, the Buckeyes appear well on their way to having one of the top classes in the country once again.
