Here's what happens to your character if you rage quit in Mortal Kombat 1
A select lucky few are getting to play an early Mortal Kombat 1 build as NetherRealm Studios launched its weekend-long stress test Friday. It comes as little surprise that more than a few of said lucky few are already rage quitting out of matches that aren't going their way.
Since its inception, Mortal Kombat has been a franchise that aims to directly articulate both the pride and shame that come with fighting game play, and this latest entry is no different. Continue on to see what happens when you rage quit an online bout in Mortal Kombat 1.
Fatalities, the most prominent trademark aspect of the MK experience, are there strictly for show and to twist the metaphorical knife of victory that much farther into your foe's side. This alluring aspect of play quickly expanded to include more Fatalities, Babalities, Animalities, Brutalities, Friendships, and more.
When MK Deception eventually rolled around in 2004, developers added in hara-kiri suicide moves that defeated players could try to input more quickly than their foes during the Fatality window.
If successful, the winner would lose their opportunity to finish their opposition and instead the defeated character would take matters into their own hands via varying, imaginative means.
Hara-kiri never quite came back, but with the advent of regular online play quitalities sort of came in and played a somewhat similar role. Quit an online bout early in Mortal Kombat X or MK11 and your character would either have their head or full body explode, or they'd be suddenly impaled on a giant spike.
The quitality is apparently back in Mortal Kombat 1 and now has a very hara-kiri vibe to it as the quitter's character will promptly break their own neck to end the fight.
At the rate we're seeing them during a stress test, we suppose these might be the most commonly seen "alities" in this game.
Tournament player and content creator PND|Ketchup posted footage of one such happening a mere 10 minutes into his play time with the game. Here's how the latest version plays out:
10 minutes into the MK1 Stress Test and I've already had my first QUITALITY

A very brief Twitter search yielded plenty more examples. It seems the sudden auto-neck breaker animation is the only one (thus far), but here are some of the other available characters doing it:
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on Sept. 19, 2023.
