LIVE UPDATES: Severe weather reported across north Georgia, kills one person in Fulton County

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A broken line of showers and thunderstorms is sweeping southward, through North Georgia. Storms may impact Sunday evening plans. Thousands of people across metro Atlanta are experiencing power outages, according to Georgia Power.

LIVE UPDATES:

7:42 p.m. | Atlanta police confirmed to Atlanta News First that a 53-year-old man died from injuries after being struck by a falling tree in the area of 319 Delmont Drive Northeast.

7:22 p.m. | There are currently more than 1,392 power outages reported in Georgia.

6:35 p.m. | Butterworth Road at Pecan Drive is shut down due to a large tree that has fallen across the roadway, according to Cherokee Sheriff’s Office,

6:20 p.m. | Severe storms are moving into Cobb County. Fire and police are already dealing with multiple tree-down calls. Avoid travel at this time.

5:15 p.m. | Showers and storms are racing toward Metro Atlanta, from the north. A few severe storms with gusty winds and up to quarter-size hail are possible. Heavy rain and frequent lightning will accompany any storm this afternoon. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect. Have a way to be alerted to severe weather approaching your area.

3:45 p.m. | A broken line of showers and storms is racing out of northeast Alabama and east Tennessee; into North Georgia. Storms will impact mountain communities first, then spread into Metro Atlanta closer to dinner time. A few storms may be severe, with gusty winds and large hail. If you have outdoor plans, make a ‘plan B. Have a way to be alerted to storms approaching your area.
