In Mortal Kombat 1, a Quitality Is a Real Pain in the Neck
Mortal Kombat 1 held an online stress test over the weekend, and it didn’t take long for players to discover the return of the Quitality.
A Quitality is a finishing move introduced into the series with 2015’s Mortal Kombat X. They only occur during an online match when a player leaves before the end of the winning round (so, before Mortal Kombat’s famous Finish Him / Her prompt). In Mortal Kombat X, a Quitality would see the offending player character’s head explode in a shower of gore. In Mortal Kombat 11, the quitter would either end up impaled on a giant rock spike or explode.
In Mortal Kombat 1, however, a Quitality comes with a twist... of the player’s neck. Rather than explode or fall on spikes, the offending character now breaks their own neck in a speedy and dramatic animation. This being an online stress test there is little at stake when it comes to competitive Mortal Kombat 1, but that hasn’t stopped players from quitting matches. Here’s an example of how it looks when Kenshi quits, below:

And here's Sub-Zero performing the same trick:
Mortal Kombat 1’s online stress test ends today, June 26 at 8am Pacific. Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC on September 19, 2023, and it serves as the start of a new Mortal Kombat Universe that was created by the Fire God Liu Kang. It also features assist characters named Kameos that let you to call in different Mortal Kombat characters to help you in battle.
