Enhanced Box Score: Phillies 5, Cubs 1 - June 27, 2023
It drives you mad trying to watch Jameson Taillon this year. He’ll strike a bunch of guys out, and then he’ll get absolutely hammered immediately thereafter (especially by lefties). He’ll give up dink and dunk shots that ALWAYS lead to another run or two because there’s ALWAYS someone on base. He has been the most unholy combination of bad and unlucky I can remember a half-season Cubs pitcher being.
It makes for some of the most unpleasant Cubs baseball watching in recent memory. I dread his starts. DREAD them.
I hope he can turn it around – figure out how to stop letting lefties DESTROY you, for one thing – and he also starts getting more luck. But hope is all that is, and positive regression alone doesn’t get him anywhere close to average. If I’m this frustrated, I can only imagine how he’s trying to work through this. I’d be breaking so many gatorade coolers.
The Cubs didn’t put up much of a fight offensively until a mini rally in the 8th, but it fizzled quickly. Cody Bellinger’s bloop double was their only extra-base hit of the night.
