Broken throw tech option select discovered in Street Fighter 6, Capcom has already issued a statement indicating its removal
Street Fighter 6 has been out for nearly a full month at this point. As such, the meta has been developing in interesting ways, thanks to player discoveries and refinement of strategies.
Recently, ChinaTown on Twitter posted about the discovery of a simple option select. Upon wakeup, a character will block if the opponent attacks while they will perform a throw tech if the opponent attempts a throw.
To perform this option select, all the player has to do is hold down and back to block, medium kick, heavy kick, and heavy punch. Following this, they then just simply have to press and hold the Simultaneous Input Assistance button upon wake up.
The Simultaneous Input Assistance button, when held, makes it so that any punch or kick that's pressed will be recorded by the game as pressing all three strengths of punch or kick. Needless to say, this is just intended to be an option to assist newcomers to the Street Fighter series.
It's very clear that throwing is intended to be a powerful option to open up an opponent in Street Fighter 6. By securing a throw, a large amount of damage will be dealt to an opponent, even while they are blocking.
While in the corner, most characters will be at enough advantage in which they can threaten yet another throw. In other words, throw loops are a big part of Street Fighter 6's meta right now.
The threat of throw is also what makes the "shimmy" so powerful in Street Fighter 6. If a character attempts a throw tech while the opponent is out of range, they'll be open to a huge punish.
Indeed, being in the corner puts a player at a terrible disadvantage. As such, the existence of this option select completely breaks Street Fighter 6's meta.
Here's a throw tech os that's super easy to do.
All you have to do is hold 1+MK+HK+HP, then press and hold Simultaneous Input Assistance (SAB) when you wake up. This will give a throw tech if you get thrown, or a block if you don't get thrown.@HatsonFGC#StreetFighter6 #SF6 pic.twitter.com/Ia3E52bXsd — ChinaTown (@ChinaTownTBB) June 28, 2023
Thanks to Oreo Speedwagon, it quickly became apparent that this tech had applications outside of waking up. It just about any situation, a player may be allowed to simultaneously block and throw tech without any sort of commitment.
Needless to say, it didn't take long for Capcom to catch wind of this option select. As expected, they've released a statement indicating that this interaction will be removed.
"We're aware of a bug related to throw escapes in Street Fighter 6, and are currently investigating the situation," said Capcom through their official Street Fighter Twitter account. "Once we have identified the cause, we will be fixing the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our players."

Evidently, Capcom sees this option select as a big problem. This means that we can probably expect a patch to address it in the coming days or weeks.
