Sha’Carri Richardson put up the season's fastest 100m time Thursday (6 July) at the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She clocked a 10.71 to win the first of four heats. The time also represents a personal best for Richardson.

Brittany Brown's 10.96 (also a personal best) was good for second overall, followed by Tamara Clark at 11.02.

The semi-finals and finals in the women's 100m are set for Friday evening (7 July).

Earlier this year, Richardson, 23, ran the fourth fastest time in history in the women's 100m, a wind-aided 10.57 that is ineligible for records, at the Miranmar Invitational meet on 8 April and has consistently finished under 11 seconds this 2023 season. She ran a 10.76 time at the Doha Diamond League, which is now the third fastest time in the world this season.

The U.S. championships, which run through Sunday (9 July), also serve as the U.S. trials for the upcoming World Championships.

Richardson is seeking her first-ever berth to the U.S. team for the global event.
