Suspect killed during shootout with officer in Glendale, police say
GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A suspect is dead after Glendale police say he got into a shootout with an officer on Thursday evening. Glendale Police Sgt. Randy Stewart said a 21-year-old man driving a pickup truck got into a crash with an SUV in the area of Maryland and 53rd avenues, which is north of Bethany Home Road, around 5 p.m. The father and his two children in the SUV weren’t hurt, but the suspect ran off.
Police arrived and started looking for the suspect. According to Stewart, police got a tip the suspect may have been in an alleyway. An officer checked out the alley and spotted the suspect in the bushes. The officer yelled at the suspect to surrender. The suspect then shot at the officer multiple times, Stewart said. The officer wasn’t hit and returned fire, killing the suspect, Stewart said. The suspect’s gun was reportedly found nearby. The suspect has not been identified.
This is the 38th shooting involving officers in the Valley in 2023 and the 49th overall in the state.
