Every summer, there seems to be a transfer saga surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe at PSG and a potential move to Real Madrid. This has been going on for years now but it appears that we might be about to reach its conclusion soon. And if the World Cup winner was to leave the French capital, Santiago Bernabeu does seem to be his most likely destination.

It emerged recently that Mbappe did not want to extend his contract with PSG. His current deal with the club runs until the summer of 2024, meaning that he will become a free agent a year later.

PSG have made their stance pretty clear as well. They want Mbappe to either extend his contract with the club over the comings weeks or part ways this summer, so that they do not lose out on a transfer fee.

As reported by ESPN, Mbappe is not planning to extend his contract at PSG despite the latest comments from Nasser Al-Khelaifi. He is beginning to assume that he might have to leave this summer and Real Madrid are his preferred option.

Rumours have suggested that Real Madrid are open to the idea of making a move for Mbappe this summer itself, if that is what it takes to bring the Frenchman to the Spanish capital. And the timing might work out pretty well for them.

Karim Benzema left this summer, leaving Real Madrid without a first-choice centre-forward as well as the face of the club. Mbappe could take up both those roles, if he did arrive in this window.

Of course, there have been plenty of twists and turns in the Mbappe transfer saga over the years. If there is one thing we have learned from them, it is to take nothing for granted.
