80/35 Music Festival announces new location for 2024
DES MOINES, Iowa — The 80/35 Music Festival is leaving downtown Des Moines for a more natural environment. It officially announced a move to Water Works Park next year during the festival’s opening night.
80/35 revealed several months ago that it would move from Western Gateway Park after this year due to a lack of space. Festival organizer Mickey Davis believes Water Works Park is the perfect location for the festival’s future ambitions.
“With Water Works Park, there’s tons of room for new experimental opportunities,” Davis said. There’s more stages of music, maybe even camping down the road. There’s a ton of things we can bring into the festival.”
80/35 started in 2008 and every single festival has taken place in downtown Des Moines. Repeat 80/35 attendees had mixed opinions about the departure for Water Works Park.
“I wouldn’t like it, parking is a concern,” said Vic Campos, Jr., who said he has attended nearly every 80/35 festival. “I really think it belongs down here. However, the new change will be welcome to wherever it goes. I still will go.”
“I just think that’s a great location,” 80/35 attendee Sarah Shaffer said about Water Works Park. “They’ve done a lot of work there and the beer garden that they have there is really cool.”
Davis believes 80/35 fans will still have a good time at the festival’s new home.
“It will feel like the 80/35 people know and love, but it also takes us to the next level as a festival,” Davis said.
The final 80/35 at Western Gateway Park wraps up Saturday night with Outkast rapper Big Boi as the headlining act.
