Director James Cameron's enormous, one-of-a-kind property along the California coast was recently listed for $33 million.

The 100-acre estate is located in Santa Barbara County along the coastline of Gaviota, in a private residential and agricultural community called Hollister Ranch. Cameron and his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, bought the property in the 1990's for about $4.4 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The ranch features an 8,000 square-foot, five-bedroom, seven-bathroom main residence, along with a guest house, two barns, an equestrian facility, a ranch office and a large vegetable garden.

"This spectacular parcel stands in its own class as one of the most private and secure compounds on the Coast of Southern California," the property's Forbes Real Estate listing states.

The wood and glass finishes and high vaulted ceilings inside the main residence create a bright and airy atmosphere throughout its rooms. This is especially true of the ocean-facing upstairs office where Cameron wrote parts of "Avatar," according to the Wall Street Journal. The property also comes with a large pool, a tennis court, multiple hiking trails and a helicopter landing pad.

The Camerons bought the property in hopes of relocating from Malibu to a more rural property, the couple told the Wall Street Journal. Hollister Ranch's preservation-focused approach to land ownership prohibits its homeowners from developing more than 2 acres on any of the properties in the neighborhood with 100+ acres, the ranch's listing states. This has resulted in the area boasting over 14,000 acres of undeveloped land.

The property is represented by Emily Kellenberger of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties along with Jeff Kruthers of Hollister Ranch Realty.
