The ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ double feature isn’t a joke

What started as an internet meme has turned into a full fledged phenomenon. In just 10 days, the long-anticipated “Barbie”/“Oppenheimer” double feature is slated to become a reality, with the fate of the movie industry in the balance.
“Barbenheimer,” as the twin debut is affectionately known, has immense expectations. As the Los Angeles Times notes, film revenues have not recovered to pre-pandemic levels, and the underwhelming box office returns of would-be blockbuster’s like “Elemental” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have not helped.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, movie theaters are closing left and right.
