Why crews are not aggressively fighting Yosemite's Pika Fire

A wildfire has been burning in Yosemite National Park for over two weeks, and fire crews are not using aggressive tactics to fully extinguish it, allowing flames in some areas to thin out forestland, the national park said.
The Pika Fire ignited by a lightning strike on June 29 near North Dome, about 1.5 miles northwest of Half Dome as the crow flies. The fire is intermittently flooding Yosemite Valley with smoke and reducing air quality. The worst smoke conditions are likely to occur from evening to morning; find the latest information on Yosemite air quality on the park website. The North Dome Trail, which leads to the top of the granite dome offering views of Half Dome, is closed. The trail that travels toward Indian Rock is also closed because of the fire.
