Alternate inputs for Drive Rush Cancels being added to Street Fighter 6 with the upcoming Rashid update on July 24
Rashid is slated to released on July 24, 2023. As expected, there will be a new patch that makes him available on that day.
Earlier today, Capcom revealed a new feature coming to Street Fighter 6 with this new patch. Starting on July 24, it will be possible to perform a Drive Rush Cancel using an alternative set of inputs.
Instead of tapping forward and forward after connecting with a special cancellable normal, players will now be able to do the same action by pressing the inputs for the Drive Parry.
For default Classic Controls, this can be performed by simply pressing medium punch and medium kick at the same time. For Modern Controls, the player will only have to press the Drive Parry Button.
After inputting the Drive Parry inputs, it won't be necessary to press forward and forward, though that will still remain as an accepted input for the Drive Rush Cancel for those that wish to continue using that method.
According to the Japanese Tweet that announces this, the accepted inputs for the Drive Rush Cancel will require players to keep their sticks/analogs in the neutral or forward positions. This heavily implies that players won't be able to perform this alternative set of inputs while holding down or backwards, thus it will continue to require that charge characters give up their charge.
The fact that Capcom is adding this as a feature demonstrates that they are listening to the community as many players have been complaining about the strain on their wrists that have resulted in pressing forward and forward after connecting with a special cancellable normal.
As a side note, this also gives us our first look at Rashid's second set of colors for the default costume. In this color, Rashid's half-hat shemagh and pants are blue instead of black and white.
During the clip, Rashid is shown cancelling his standing medium punch into a Drive Rush Cancel using the alternative input. From here, Rashid links into a standing heavy punch that's then cancelled into a heavy Eagle Spike.
The next combo shown for Rashid is a crouching medium kick into the alternative Drive Rush Cancel. Following this, Rashid links into a standing medium kick, a forward medium punch, and then cancels into his heavy Spinning Mixer using Modern Controls.
It's highly likely that most players will transition into using this input method for the Drive Rush Cancel. Fans should look forward to this change coming on July 24, 2023.
A new quality-of-life feature is coming with the Rashid update on July 24!
