Rickie Fowler called 'coward' by Open Championship heckler
Rickie Fowler has revealed the reason a heckler was going after him.
“No Laying Up” editorial director Kevin Van Valkenburg asked Fowler about getting heckled at The Open Championship after the round in which the golfer shot a plus-one.
“He called me a coward for not going through with my Leeds investment,” Fowler said. “That’s a first.
“Maybe he should put up his own money.”
A video shot from the crowd seems to confirm what Fowler said.
The video shows two hooligans, one appearing to hold an alcoholic beverage, asking the golfer about what happened with “49ers” and “Leeds,” and another calling Fowler a “coward.”

In June, Fowler spoke about how he would be investing alongside Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in 49ers Enterprises, the group that has acquired the British soccer club Leeds.
“It’s cool to have those opportunities,” Fowler added. “I know we are looking into it. It will be fun if we get to be a part of it. If not, we’ll continue to root for Leeds to see if we can help out Billy.
“Obviously they got relegated, but to be able to go to a Premier League game, Champions League. I feel like, obviously you call it football over there, we call it soccer here, it’s a massive sport.

“I feel like it’s continuing to get bigger in the States, but since I haven’t been to a game I don’t have the true appreciation until I’ve actually been able to go and be there and feel that energy.”
However, last week Spieth told reporters that Fowler had pulled out on his investment after the team got relegated.
Fowler was having an outstanding first day at The Open on Thursday before the 18th hole, when he hit the ball out of bounds twice to settle for a triple-bogey, taking him from two-under par to one over.
This was the second time a golf heckler has made it in the news in recent days.
Mardy Fish told Ryen Russillo earlier this week that the heckler who cost him the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course this past weekend had bet on Stephen Curry to win.
