NY Jets sign DL Ife Odenigbo and RB Damarea Crockett
The New York Jets made multiple roster transactions on their second day of training camp
With the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets boasting a roster that is mostly solidified at the top, the team is focused on fine-tuning the bottom end of the depth chart in an attempt to break the longest current playoff drought in the NFL. On Friday, general manager Joe Douglas made a couple of roster transactions.
The Jets signed DL Ife Odenigbo and RB Damarea Crockett. They also released TE Izaiah Gathings.

Odenigbo is a 6-foot-3, 258-pound defensive end who was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings out of Northwestern in the seventh round of the 2017 draft. Since then he’s been on the Browns, Cardinals, Colts and Buccaneers. In his six-year career, the Odenigbo has appeared in 55 games, totaling 14 sacks, 90 tackles, and 14 TFLs. He had 3.5 sacks in 14 games last season.
Crockett is a 5-foot-11, 225-pound running back who started his career in 2019, signing with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri. He would later find himself on the Raiders and Packers practice squads before landing on the Broncos in 2020.
The Jets need depth at running back, but Crockett is more likely to be a contributor on special teams. The 25-year-old played 61 percent of the Broncos’ special teams snaps across his 12 appearances in 2021 but has only played five offensive snaps in his career. The Missouri product would tear his ACL in 2022 before being released by the Broncos on June 5, 2023.
Gathings signed with the Jets in May after participating in the team’s rookie minicamp as a tryout player. He started his career at Gardner-Webb before catching on with the Blue Raiders. Gathings played wide receiver at Middle Tennessee State, totaling 84 catches, 861 yards and 3 touchdowns.
