Carlos Correa hits walk-off winner after another 9th inning Twins comeback
The Twins staged an unlikely 9th inning comeback for the second night running, before an RBI single from Carlos Correa grabbed the win in extras over the Seattle Mariners at Target Field.
Needing one more out for a Twins win and the save, Griffin Jax gave up a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th to the Kolten Wong, handing the visiting side a 3-2 lead.
But the Twins were once again not to be denied, following Sunday's 9th inning comeback from 3-0 down against the White Sox with another on Monday.
A double from Alex Kirilloff was followed by another by Max Kepler to tie things up 3-3 and send the game to extras.
Jorge Lopez got three quick outs in the 10th without Seattle troubling the scoreboard, bringing the Twins up.
A sacrifice bunt from Christian Vazquez advanced runner Donovan Solano to third, with Ryan Jeffers bunting the very next ball, attempting a safety squeeze that failed to score Solano, but did get him a single.
That brought up Correa, who took two strikes before singling to right, scoring Solano for a 4-3 win.
A two-run 5th inning from the Twins, including an RBI triple from Trevor Larnach, had given Minnesota the lead off the back of an excellent start from Kenta Maeda, who gave up a single earned run and struck out eight across 6.1 innings.
With the Twins' bullpen tired after Sunday's 12th-inning win, Jovani Moran and Jordan Balazovic were called in for the 7th and 8th innings, and pitched well to set up the save chance for Jax.
Jax blew the save, but his blushes were spared by the Twins and Correa in the 10th.
