Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 7, White Sox 3
Keep the good times rolling, boys! That’s four wins in a row for a Cubs team that really needs a long winning streak.
The Cubs’ bats came out hot tonight against Michael Kopech, especially Dansby Swanson, who took him deep twice. Christopher Morel and Nico Hoerner also homered in this one, and the Cubs were also running WILD on Yasmani Grandal.
Kyle Hendricks CRUISED for the first six innings of this one and his first two times through the order. The White Sox looked completely enfeebled, having nothing whatsoever to offer against Hendricks. But, ah, that third time through. They started getting to him. Hendricks got into serious trouble in the 7th, loading the bases with nobody out before Seiya Suzuki bailed him out with a grand-slam-saving catch. Then Mark Leiter Jr. came in and cleaned up from there, leaving Hendricks with a quality start, and an overall solid line.
From there, it was Michael Fulmer who needed a little cleanup help in the 9th, putting the first two guys on in the inning. So closer Adbert Alzolay was summoned to shut things down, and boy did he: strikeout, strikeout, strikeout. Game over.
