iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button Functionality Leaked In Latest iOS 17 Beta, It Is A Shortcut Button After All
Apple will announce its latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models later this year with major changes in terms of design and front-facing features. One of the major changes coming to the iPhone 15 Pro's exterior is the Action Button which will take the place of the Mute Switch. Up until now, there were only speculations that the Action Button will be used as a shortcut key but no solid proof was available. In the latest iOS 17 beta, the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button functionality has been leaked.
The Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro could perform nine different Functions, more could be announced at the launch
Yesterday, Apple saw fit to release the fourth beta of its forthcoming iOS 17 update to developers for testing. The latest update brings a plethora of changes to the platform. While the final version of iOS 17 will be available to the general public later this year, the beta updates offer a look into the future as far as the iPhone 15 Pro models are concerned. Some of the code references include details related to the Action Button's functionality on the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max (via MacRumors).
We have previously covered how the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro could feature functionality similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. However, the feature might vary from device to device, but the purpose remains the same - to make certain features easier to access. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro models feature a Mute Switch, which will be replaced by an Action Button. As per the recently revealed code in iOS 17, the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button could house nine different functionalities:
Accessibility
Shortcuts
Silent Mode
Camera
Focus
Magnifier
Translate
Voice Memos
Flashlight
These are only some of the functionalities of the Action Button that were discovered in iOS 17. At the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple could announce additional features as well. In our view, the Accessibility features are the hardest to access for users, and if all it takes is the press of a button, then it would be very handy for users.
It was initially coined that Apple would replace the mechanical buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro with solid-state buttons. This included the Volume, Power, and Action Button. However, it was later uncovered that the company would not be moving forward with the plan due to technical difficulties. The feature is now expected to arrive with the launch of iPhone 16 Pro models. Potentially, Apple will offer the standard iPhone 16 models with an Action Button as well, removing the Mite Switch altogether from the lineup.
