This week, we’re seeing the biggest overnight prices jumps than we’ve seen in more than a year.

Gas prices in Raleigh have jumped 16 cents a gallon in the past week, according to AAA.

Average gas prices nationwide have spiked 11 cents in the past 72 hours.

Drivers haven’t encountered anything like that since last June.

"Add all of that up, rising oil prices, refinery issues, high demand and low supply and that’s why gas prices are suddenly starting to take back off," said Patrick De Haan with GasBuddy.

He says we also need to brace for another price increase as we get into the thick of hurricane season in August.

If oil refineries in states like Texas and Louisiana are hit by hurricanes, that would impact our supply and hike up gas prices.

New data released by AAA early Thursday morning shows:

National average is $3.71

North Carolina is $3.50

Raleigh is $3.51
