1 dead after shooting on Indy’s near northwest side
INDIANAPOLIS — One man is dead after a shooting on the city’s near northwest side.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Eugene Street shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday, a residential area near MLK and W. 29th Street.
Police reported finding the victim deceased in the backyard with gunshot wounds. Officers say the shooting was the result of a disturbance, and the homicide detectives are investigating.
“It’s totally unwarranted. There’s absolutely no excuse for people dying because of disturbances and people being upset with each other. It scares us to death, it should everybody. We need the public’s help, we need people talking to their friends and people they know, sharing that it’s not appropriate to solve disturbances with violence. It never has been but it seems to get worse and worse,” said Captain Mark McCardia.
IMPD believes they have everyone involved in the shooting, and police do not believe that it was a random act.
