Blizzard has put together a list of statistics and player data for Season of the Malignant, revealing the total amount of Diablo 4 characters created within its first week. Though Diablo 4 has been a major success for Blizzard in terms of sales, player reception has considerably soured since launch. The reception to Season of the Malignant's patch notes threw the community into an uproar, and the developers have since tried to appease frustrated Diablo 4 fans by reverting the most unpopular changes.
Despite being extremely vocal, the endless list of feedback provided by Diablo 4 players comes from a place of passion, rather than hate. To these staunch fans of the Diablo franchise, quitting the game is the least preferable option. They want Diablo 4 to shake off its current shortcomings and live up to its full potential.

This is reflected in the numbers revealed through Diablo 4's latest tweet. The controversy has done little to sink the game's popularity, as over seven million seasonal characters were created within the first week of Season 1 alone. Though only seven thousand players have reached the level cap, it is important to remember that leveling up in Diablo 4 has considerably slowed down in Patch 1.1. Another impressive statistic has concerned Malignant Hearts, as over two hundred million hearts have been caged by Diablo 4 players, implying that the community had no trouble engaging with the new seasonal mechanic.
Curiously, among the player stats, it would seem that The Butcher in Diablo 4 has claimed over three million victims, more than twice as much as the new world boss from Season of the Malignant. However, the record for deadliest monster goes to the new Malignant enemy type, as a formidable pack of Elites with the right affixes always spelled doom for Diablo players. One of the major gripes in Diablo 4 concerns the monster affixes, as some types (such as Cold Enchanted) are significantly harder to deal with than others.
Compared to the previous infographic posted before Season of the Malignant, it would appear that monster slaying has also gone up. From 2.73 billion Monsters Killed, the new 74.6 billion Monsters Killed implies that not only have Diablo 4 players skipped the campaign this time around, but that their farming methods have gotten more sophisticated as well. However, the lack of an Hours Played statistic has caused some fans to speculate that long-term engagement has gone down.
Diablo 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
